“I can’t pay 15 million naira to register my products”
In a world where access to the Internet is supposed to be a fundamental human right you still find out that Nigerians are one of the most misinformed people. I can’t count how many times I have heard news somewhere and when I read about it later what was portrayed earlier was the exact opposite. Well, that is a story for another day. So, i don’t know if you remember my very first post for 2020 “My First Facials” yeah well I promised myself to do it once every two months same with my pedicure at least until I have money to go as I feel. So I called my nail stylist days ago if she would be available, she wasn’t sure but promised to get in touch. Long story short she didn’t go to her studio so I had to find some else. I am very picky when it comes to my body or hair, I have had the same hairdresser for years and I can count how many hairdressers have touched my hair even growing up. I sha went to one beauty studio, I have been eyeing the place for a while, looked good on the outside. On getting there I loved the inside very clean, staff well dressed and all we negotiated price and I sat oo.
The lady decided to do my pedicure first and in less than 20 mins into the whole thing these guys walked-in ( 4men and 1 woman) I noticed a bit of silent altercation between these people and the girl by the receptionist table, I told the nail technician to go and ask what they wanted she said the girl can handle it I kept quiet after about another 5 minutes they started entering other rooms and parking their products it became rowdy the girl was calling the owner it was not until then that the technician stood and found out they were from NAFDAC. The girl they met by the table had run away through the back door all the other staffs have somehow disappeared, that is where yawa gas oooo. Next thing I heard call the officers, nobody is leaving this building, I just turned and told the lady that me I would leave this building oo because “I am nothing but a customer”. The officers came in with guns my heart raced I won’t lie. By this time I was done with my pedicure and I declared that I am not doing again, my head was screaming I wanna go home. I was able to leave the building got another local place close to the building to do my nails and watched as they matched out and closed down the building.
Now my headache started when someone came and said what happened was not fair and that the owner of the place who was absent said she didn’t have 15 million naira to register her products blah blah blah and one other person said the girls should have brided them, I didn’t know how much it cost to register but I knew it can never be 15 million ( are you making another Aso-rock) it was at that point I knew that as Nigerians we need to do better. I had to talk to these women about the impact the product would have if it’s fake and I remind them about the “My Pikin” drug that reign in the 2000s used for teething babies that drug killed over 70 children between 2months to 7years old. I am also a victim of mixed cream my body is yet to recover. If you most produce anything do it the right way, if you cut corners, the law would catch up with you one day. The owner of the place was calling her neighbours saying she was seeing everything from her CCTV camera (I don’t know how true but it is subject to verification).
I visited the NAFDAC site and confirmed the different categories for producing taxes inclusive https://www.nafdac.gov.ng/ it’s not up to 15 million jack. ( they even have options for small businesses) I am not also oblivious of the fact that things are hard in this country and that if you don’t know someone you can’t get some things done, but getting it right is better than jeopardising the lives of people with your products whether eatable or not. You can visit their site to confirm which category you fall under.

I hope this inspires someone hoping to start making her own products to do the right thing.
